Food Safety Regulations Are Steering The Evolution Of Product Inspection

Source: Food Online

As FSMA’s implementation moves closer and closer, food processors and manufacturers will be relying heavily on advancements in product inspection equipment to become or remain compliant. Kyle Thomas, Strategic Business Unit Manager at Eagle Product Inspection, offers opinions, advice, and guidance to food industry professionals about how food safety regulations are driving improvements in product inspection equipment.

How are food safety regulations, such as FSMA, driving the evolution of inspection/detection solutions?

Thomas: The goals of our X-ray inspection equipment and the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), signed in 2011, are aligned. We are both focused on advocating food safety and product quality through the effective detection and removal of all contaminants.

The act allows for the penalization of any manufacturer or processor that does not comply with food safety legislation. This has been driving R&D to the launch of improved product inspection systems. Manufacturers know that they must invest in accurate, reliable solutions or risk facing significant fines and loss of business.
