Stand-Up Pouch Loader Exhibits Automation

Eagle Packaging has teamed up with sister company WeighPack, creating an entire new packaging solution
The Paxiom group — a food packaging solutions provider — has been working with it subsidiary companies to create an automated machine to conveniently add stand-up pouch packages to corrugated trays or cases. Eagle Packaging collaborated with its sister company, WeighPack Systems, to bring this new packaging technology to the market. To achieve its goal, the partnership combined a few of its current systems to effectively automate the packaging solution.
The target markets for this new system are food and beverage manufacturers that ship in corrugated packages. The base system is a Boxxer case erector loader that combines the constructing process and the product loading process into one closed system, ultimately saving labor costs. This system is entirely enclosed in a tubular frame that is durable enough to produce up to 15 cases per minute that can weigh up to 50 pounds.
Usually, case or tray packaging requires an assembly line where multiple machines form, pack, and seal the case/tray. However, Eagle Packaging and WeighPack’s system has the ability to take a flat blank container and process it to be shelf/pallet ready. The machine can be fitted for a multitude of applications including tuck, tape, or glue methods with a quicker than normal changeover rate.
Another benefit of this system, which will be exhibited at the Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, California March 7-9, is the automatic tray former. This feature prevents staff from having to physically fold trays — a common cause of carpal tunnel in factory workers. Money is saved in the reduced amount of workers compensations claims alone. The use of die cuts also reduces overhead as regular shipping boxes (flaps on bottom and top) are pre-glued by the corrugating manufacturer which they charge for. This new system is able to eliminate the need for pre-gluing with the automatic former.
